JUSTICE Secretary Jack Straw had a golden opportunity to tell all about Jon Venables.

But he said nothing.

He claims he doesn’t want to prejudice a potential trial.

Yet so much is already in the public domain his continued silence is almost laughable.

Listen, Mr Straw.

We do not begrudge any suspect a fair trial. Even already convicted child murderers.

But the public has a right to know exactly why Venables has been locked up again.

And you, as our elected representative, should oblige.

If a previous Home Secretary has messed up, the country needs to know.

If probation services are to blame, the country needs to know.

Officials must be publicly held to account if they’ve allowed Venables to commit another serious crime.

This information vacuum is only making things worse.

Give us the facts, Jack.
