RICHARD SWINGS INTO HIS 70S

10th March 2010

Pop veteran SIR CLIFF RICHARD will mark his 70th birthday this year by releasing a new album of jazz and swing tracks.

The iconic entertainer has had a chart hit in every decade since the 1950s - a feat only equalled by Elvis Presley - and he is bidding for new music glory in a completely different genre.

The 12-track release, titled Bold as Brass, will hit stores on 11 October (10), three days before he reaches his 70th birthday.

Richard tells Reuters, "With the incredible creative input of seasoned American producer Michael Omartian, and the live sound of Nashville's best swing musicians, Bold as Brass is an album I've planned and dreamt about for years.

"It's been a long time coming, but what better way to mark my 70th birthday than to celebrate a genre of music which is both timeless and sheer class."

The star will showcase his new music during six concerts at London's Royal Albert Hall this autumn.
