CALLING THE BANKS TO ACCOUNT
WITH bankers getting zillions in bonuses, a new campaign has been launched to give access to banking services for the people who need it most.
The Better Banking Campaign has found that as many as seven million of us can't get access to mainstream loans, overdrafts and credit cards, while 1.75million can't even get a basic bank account.
They say many are forced to borrow from payday lenders and credit firms, often paying interest at an incredible 2,500%.
Steve Wyler, from the Better Banking Campaign, said: "Considering how much public money has propped up the banks it's deplorable they aren't currently supporting the people most in need.
"Most people believe access to bank accounts and credit are basic rights, so we want it to be a priority for all political parties."
