OWL CITY TO PLAY IN BRIGHTON

US sensation Owl City is responsible for denying Jedward their first No 1, but he has no idea who they are because he doesn’t own a TV.

The shy singer, alias Adam Young, is from a small town called Owatonna in Minnesota and has sold more than three million copies of single Fireflies.

But he told me: “I don’t really know what’s going on in the world of entertainment, what’s popular or anything about reality TV.

“I grew up in a family who didn’t watch TV so I don’t have one now.

“I think it’s cool to be mentioned in the same sentence stars like Jedward as the amount of success that I’ve had for what I’m doing is so unexpected. Needless to say, I’m pretty thrilled.”

Fireflies is now the fastest-selling electronic-cum-alternative track of all time in the US and Adam’s new album Ocean Eyes has been pulled forward for its UK re-release on Monday due to huge demand.

He kicks off his tour in Brighton on February 17.

Adam, 23, continued: “Being famous is pretty weird as I’m from a really small town and very shy.

“When at home I make music by myself in my house, then when we’re on the road there are 12 of us on the bus so there is never any peace and quiet.

“I was an outcast in high school and the people who made fun of me now want to go out to eat.”

Adam is looking forward to getting to grips with Blighty as he has never visited our shores before.

He revealed: “I never went far on vacation as a kid so this project is allowing me to reach my dreams and see a lot of the world.”
