EXCLUSIVE: PIZZA BAD LUCK FOR DRINK DRIVE PAUL GASCOIGNE

ABOVE: Paul Gascoigne was arrested after a night in a pub
8th February 2010

By Steve Hughes

BOOZY Paul Gascoigne was arrested for drink driving last night after driving just 100 FEET to a pizza takeaway.

The ex-England ace spent the evening downing pints of lager and whiskey and cokes at a hotel bar before his ill-fated grub run.

According to witnesses Paul Gascoigne, 42, stopped driving after just 30 metres and left his white van in the middle of the road as he staggered into Regency Pizzas in Leeming Bar, North Yorks.

But he didn’t get to eat his takeaway as four police cars turned up and the ex-Spurs and Rangers player was hauled off to a local station after being breathalysed.

Fellow drinkers told how Gazza’s latest evening of shame started in the Corner House Hotel in Leeming Bar, where the midfielder was drinking with a pal after a day’s fishing.

Skinful
A source said: “He’d booked himself into the hotel for the evening. He started drinking lagers at first and then he moved onto the Jack Daniel’s and coke.

“He was drinking pretty quickly and I’d say he’d had a good skinful by the time he went out to get food.

“The crazy thing was the pizza place is only a few yards away, it’s actually quicker to walk.

“I don’t think the van even got out of first gear. He left it in the middle of the road and the barman had to run over to put the handbrake on and stop it rolling down the hill.”

Last night a police spokesman in North Yorkshire said: “I can confirm a 42-year-old man was arrested at 10.20pm in Leeming Bar and is currently at a local station.”
