ARCTIC MONKEYS AND RICHARD HAWLEY AT MENCAP'S LITTLE NOISE SESSIONS

ABOVE: Richard Hawley performed at Mencap's Little Noise Sessions
21st November 2009

WITH his uniquely dramatic songs and delivery, Sheffield’s Richard Hawley is fast becoming the Scott Walker of our generation.

Serious and Open Up The Door are the musical equivalent to a roaring open fire, flush with nostalgia and whimsical romance. His deep, velveteen voice creates something timeless and unforgettable, evoking memories of Nat King Cole.

Earlier fellow Sheffielders Arctic Monkeys made a surprise acoustic appearance to debut two new songs along with versions of Cornerstone and Fluorescent Adolescent.

Later Alex Turner turned lounge lizard for a Hank Williams-inspired version of Only Ones Who Know with Hawley.

But the highlight was Corinne Bailey Rae’s supremely soulful return. Her exquisitely arranged songs embodied the moving spirit of Stevie Wonder circa 1973.

2010 promises to be her year.
