BOSS’ JOKE EMAILS TO A BLONDE

By Emily Hall

A MILLIONAIRE City boss told a colleague she was a “dumb blonde” after sending her a string of sexist emails.

Jordan Wimmer, 29, claims she was bombarded with sexually explicit jokes by her boss, Mark Lowe, 59.

Executive Miss Wimmer wants £4million in damages, saying years of daily taunts led to her having a breakdown.

A selection of the emails sent to Miss Wimmer and other female staff at investment firm Nomos Capital were read out at an employment tribunal in London.

One email told recipients to “put your dog and your girlfriend in the boot of your car for an hour and then see who is happy to see you."

In his statement, Lowe, head of the company, also admitted referring to Miss Wimmer as “decorative” and a “dumb blonde”.

But he insisted the comments were meant in a joke manner and weren’t demeaning to women.

When Miss Wimmer expressed “mock horror” about one joke, he stopped making the comments.

Despite this Lowe then sent an email to his team about a blonde woman “mentally incapable of distinguishing cornflakes from a puzzle”.

That joke was made soon after Canadian Ms Wimmer had come out of psychiatric care for depression.

Lowe denied it was meant to cause upset, adding: “I didn’t for a moment suppose anyone would take exception to a feeble joke of this sort.

“The thought never occurred to me that she would be offended. None of the jokes were demeaning or provocative.”

The tribunal heard that Lowe often emailed crude messages about women and sex to his employees.

Jokes included “an engineer’s guide to women”, a sexual encounter told using road signs and comparisons drawn between women and expensive cars.

Julian Wilson, appearing for Ms Wimmer, said the jokes had “explained” Mr Lowe’s own view of women.

He said: “That’s why you find these jokes amusing. You did regard woman as decorative objects, didn’t you?’

Lowe denied all the allegations and had simply forwarded things sent to him. He added: “I thought they were funny.”

The hearing continues.
