VOLKSWAGEN POLO THAT AVERAGES 80.7MPG
HOW long before the 100mpg car is considered to be normal? After all, Smart recently brought out a diesel that averages 85.6mpg but, to be honest, it’s a tiny two- seater that’s best for short journeys.
This week Volkswagen announced a new Polo, called the BlueMotion that averages 80.7mpg. Apparently, it’s good for just over 800 miles on one tank, which won’t please money-grabbing oil companies. [>
[>
The BlueMotion’s all-new three-cylinder 1.2- litre common rail diesel is no tarmac tearaway, but owners won’t want that anyway. With 75bhp and 133lb of torque it’s good for 0-62mph (100kph) in 13.9secs and a 107mph top speed. [>
[>
Standard kit includes air-con, cruise control, leather steering wheel and four airbags. [>
[>
Prices start at £14,445 for what VW laughably call a “three-door” and £15,045 for a “five-door” with first deliveries in May. [>
[>
By the way, the BlueMotion’s low CO2 emissions of 91g/km mean it also qualifies for free road tax, which leads me to another question. [>
[>
How long will it be before the Government revises its zero tax rate figure from less than 100g/km to 80g/km? [>
[>
That won’t be long either. [>
