FERGIE'S £35M VILLA BID

DAILY STAR SUNDAY
ABOVE: David Villa could be set for Old Trafford
21st March 2010

By Paul Hetherington

MANCHESTER UNITED are leading the £35million chase for the striker set to be the most-wanted player in the world this summer – Spain’s David Villa.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has had his scouts making regular checks on the Valencia marksman in the last few weeks.

It’s now accepted that Villa, 28, will move on and all Europe’s big spenders will be involved in the battle – Chelsea, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool, who are United’s Old Trafford opponents today.

But United, who also retain a strong interest in another Valencia star – midfielder David Silva – are the club said to appeal most to Villa.

A hat-trick at Werder Bremen in the Europa League on Thursday night took Villa’s goal haul for the season to 22 in 34 matches.

And he goes to the World Cup this summer with an impressive record of 37 goals in 55 appearances for Spain.

Those statistics underline why Villa is attracting more attention than any other top player in the world, particularly when the big three – Real’s Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi at Barcelona and United’s Wayne Rooney – are out of the reach of other clubs.

Villa is under contract for another four years after signing a six-year deal but that won’t keep him at Valencia, who have had major financial problems.

Liverpool’s Fernando Torres has made it clear he wants to see his international team-mate join him at Anfield in what would be an exciting strike force.

But the Daily Star Sunday has been told by a top Spanish source: “Manchester United are the favourites to get Villa.”

Re: FERGIE'S ?35M VILLA BID

All of you liverpool supporters are so moany reflecting on past glories that happened like 20 years ago...you sound like my dad after a few pints (back in my day I remember blah blah blah). Whoever said united only won all their trophies from buying majorly expensive superstars clearly has no idea what he is on about...Van der sar from Fulham, Louis Saha from Fulham, Valencia from Wigan, Carrick from west ham yes it really sounds like we only go after the best in the world who are ridiculously overpriced.

I mean that 12million we paid for Ronaldo was completely out of line how dare we even pay that for like the second best player in the world. Compared to the 20million you spent on Aquilani we were living in dreamland surely! Good job we got him when he was nothing and made him brilliant then sold im for 80million.

Liverpool just need to admit that they produce failures and united make legends!!!

Aquilani was a waste of money and wouldnt even get in the united reserves let alone be rated a key player for the team like at liverpool. Ferguson doesnt waste his money that is the difference between the two teams he stated repeatedly said Tevez was too expensive for 25million so clearly we only go for the most expensive stars there is nothing remotely great about the manager he would just buy anyone obviously.

The fact is liverpool have no vision they buy outdated players like maxi who is past it...the only decent signing you have made is Torres and I feel sorry for him because he is amazingly talented and will be held back by Liverpool. We bought Rooney as a kid, we bought Ronaldo as a kid, nani, obertan and rafael and made them great. our most expensive player is Berbatov so you cant say we only buy expensive players to win, Andy cole, dwight yorke, ole gunnar solskjaer cost peanuts and won us the treble. It has been 2 years since we bought a player of that price and Villa you would hardly say is overpriced for that considering the prices of players atm with ribery 60m kaka 56m and ronaldo 80m. 35million is the most expensive the league has ever seen yes...but that is a result of the current economic climate teams need to make money, Chelsea paid 5 million less for Schevchenko a few years back when prices werent inflated and was terrible. United just have better scouts, better staff, better appeal for players and therefore better players than liverpool will ever get-which equals more Success!!!!

Re: FERGIE'S ?35M VILLA BID

liverpool4ever, just another jealous football fan i see. hows life being a liverpool fan, sucks yea? thought so. considering your a liverpool fan its quite clear u know nothing about united so being a united fan let me correct you.

1st off united is not in £700 million in dedt for buying players we are in dedt due to glazers takie over in 2005 as they were using loans to buy the club.

2nd: also before the glazers took over we were winning trophies anyway, so if u look at the facts in the past 20 years united has won more premier league titles, fa cups and league cups than liverpool and thats even before the glazers tookover and burden us with £700 million dedt.

the dedt arguement you use for the reason united is so successful is so clearly wrong i can't believe ure using it as an excuse but considering your a liverpool fan im not suprised. plz from now on save your petty excuses and put them to good use to why liverpool have been sh!t for the past 20 years, also why liverpool is having a terrible season where they won't reach 4th spot. i hope and pray u don't i would rarther have city win 4th spot than liverpool.

as for david villa i don't think we need a striker when we have rooney bang in form but if sir alex wants i would welcome the move.

Re: FERGIE'S ?35M VILLA BID

Listen. if luton spent 700million on players and were 700million in debt, no doubt they would win the league. yeah you had good youth players and were successful, but dont tell me that u would still be top if you hadn't spent all this money on players. you are in huge debt. that was the only way you won things. wenger spends pennies and makes a world class team. fergie couldn't do that. that's why he stayed at man u because he would never of been able to recreate that. regards to man city, they can buy their debt and dont mortgage their club, unlike man u. clubs like man u and real madrid are the same. buy players at inflated prices and cause debt to their clubs. that's shocking.

how many european trophies have man u won compared with liverpool????? if you analyze success with debt you will find that liverpool won more trpohies with less debt than man u. at least chelsea pay their debt and dont burden their fans with it. even your green/yellow support group realise the debt and want to do something about it, and rightly so. i also want liverpool to get out of debt and get rid of our american owners.

Re: FERGIE'S ?35M VILLA BID

Just another sad dipper there i see FACT. Kean flop FACT Aquilani flop FACT
Babel flop FACT.

And whats this about winning the prem without the debt? we have been winning the prem for years you fool, hows Liverpool getting on this year? I think you need to focus on your own problems before preaching about any other team FACT

The comment about supporting City is just you contradicting yourself. One minute your saying where trying to buy the prem the next your supporting City that are doing the same thing haha just like rafa, your loosing the plot FACT

Wrong Side Of The Bed Or Table for That Scouse Fan

Aww did somebody get up and realise how quickly their team is sinking?
Can you tell me how much we 'brought' David Beckham, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Gary Neville?
Sure United have brought players for quite alot like Berbatov, RVN, Ferdinand, Rooney maybe but then again so have Loserpool. £26Million For Fernando Torres?! Credit he is a great player and then there's A.A £20million he's so dire he makes Lucas like Zinedine Zidane and really he's not exactly at a great club that can afford that luxury.
If you have something against teams that buy buy BUY to win then why back City?
You my scouse friend are cleary in agony at how poor your team are doing, Europa league and struggling for Champions League, only this time last year everyone was raping your team for dicking us at Old Trafford, but that same number of goals you scored (4) was the same number of points you were behind United...
Adios
